A future inquiry could examine how reviewers identify decision-critical material, verify sources, reconcile discrepancies and decide when to qualify or escalate an issue.

The question is how those practices support a considered final decision, and how supervision makes the review process understandable. Empirical observations could inform that inquiry without, by themselves, determining a professional standard.

Learning over time

When does assistance build lasting skill?

Potential work could examine the relationship between assisted performance, later unaided research and reasoning, and the actions learners take while using AI.

It would need a clear comparison over time, defined AI permissions and measures capable of distinguishing better immediate output from skills that carry forward.

Professional assessment

How should judgment be evaluated?

A possible direction is to examine how human reviewers assess prioritization, usefulness, handoff quality and client communication, alongside correction of substantive errors.

Multiple ratings could help make agreement, disagreement and uncertainty visible. The assessment design would need to specify what counts as a useful judgment and what the ratings can reasonably establish.

Methods and work records

What can we measure reliably?

Future methodological work could examine records of authorities consulted, verification steps, revisions, time spent and explicit decision checkpoints.

It could also test where structured AI-assisted measurement is useful and what validation it needs against source materials and human assessment. Quality and human effort would remain distinct outcomes rather than a single efficiency score.
